Family of teen fatally hit by train release suicide note
AOMORI -- The family of a 13-year-old Aomori junior high school student who died after jumping in front of a train -- apparently after being bullied -- have released a suicide note she left behind.
The girl died on Aug. 25, the day after the start of the second semester, at a station on the JR Ou Line in Aomori Prefecture. The note includes the names of other students thought to have bullied the girl, and says, "Please do not bully ever again." It also reads, "I don't feel like I can live anymore," and says to her family, "Thank you for these 13 years."
On the night of Aug. 29, the family spoke to reporters, telling them the girl was badmouthed on the messaging app LINE. Classmates have also said that the girl, a second-year student, had been badmouthed and alienated since her first year of junior high school, and that she had started coming to school less since around winter of her first year.

今回取り上げるのはalienateです。文脈からわかる通り、『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では「…を阻害する、仲間外れにする」とありました。
この単語の中にalienという言葉が入っており、「馴染みがない、人とは違う」ことから「仲間外れ」となったのではと思いました。
Oxford dictionaries.com.によると、alienとalienateはラテン語の「他に属するもの」の“alienus”から派生し、またその動詞形として転じた「仲たがいさせる」の“alienat”からalienateとなったそうです。(flyingbird)
