Let's go to the museum / Museum ‘like a dream world’ for Snoopy fans
Snoopy is one of the world’s best-known characters. The Snoopy Museum Tokyo exhibits original drawings and precious vintage items related to the beloved cartoon dog.
The first thing to attract visitors’ attention upon entering the about 1,500-square-meter facility used exclusively for the exhibition is a wall 9.7 meters wide and 3.8 meters high, on which Snoopy and owner Charlie Brown are drawn. Next to the wall, photos and artwork displayed in chronological order relate the life story of cartoonist Charles Schulz (1922-2000).
A total of 60 original drawings by Schulz are exhibited on the wall and in showcases. Commentaries on Snoopy’s appeal by famous personalities, including former AKB 48 member Atsuko Maeda and poet Shuntaro Tanikawa, are also exhibited.
Novelist Banana Yoshimoto, for example, reminisces on the final installment of “Peanuts,” in which Snoopy is the protagonist. She expresses her affection for Schulz’s short sentences in this episode, which she finds brimming with emotion — especially his succinct line “I am announcing my retirement.”

今回取り上げるのはsuccinctです。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で調べてみますと、形容詞で「（よい意味で）（ことばが）簡潔な、簡明な」という意味があることがわかりました。LDOCEには “clearly expressed in a few words - use this to show approval [= concise]” とありました。 “in a few words” という部分から、簡潔に説明するにはどれくらいの語数がよいのかがわかります。
この表現は過去にも取り上げられておりました。そのときのものを見てみますと、反対の意味を表す言葉としてwordyやlong-windedという言葉が取り上げられておりました。(aqua)
