Kotoyuki gets big bump up to sekiwake

Kotoyuki reaped the benefits of a powerful showing at the previous tournament by leapfrogging the komusubi rank and being installed as one of the new sekiwake for the upcoming Summer Grand Sumo Tournament.

Kotoyuki, whose 12 wins as a No. 1 maegashira at the Spring tournament included victories over one yokozuna and two ozeki, was promoted to sumo’s third-highest rank as part of a clean sweep of the two sanyaku ranks in the listings released Monday by the Japan Sumo Association.
