日本のメタルダンスユニット“Babymetal”が米ビルボードのアルバムチャートで初登場39位になりました。日本人で40位以内に入るのは、1963年の坂本九さん以来です。

Japan idol group Babymetal busts into Billboard chart at No. 39

Japanese girl idol group Babymetal's second album has rocketed to No. 39 in the U.S. Billboard chart in its first week of release in the placings dated April 23.

The chart position of the album, "Metal Resistance," is the second-highest rank ever achieved by a Japanese singer or group in the album category.

The only other Japanese artist to break the Top 40 was Kyu Sakamoto in 1963, according to an official of Billboard Japan. Sakamoto’s album, "Sukiyaki and Other Japanese Hits," reached the dizzy heights of No. 14.

Babymetal's album also tops the chart in the World Albums category of the same date.
The group, made up of three teenage Japanese girls, was formed in 2010 with the concept being a “fusion of idol and metal.”

今回取り上げるのはbust intoです。
bustを『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で調べると、名詞で「1. 胸像、半身像　2.（女性の）胸（部）　3.バスト、女性の胸囲」、動詞で「1.…を壊す；…をだめにする；…を根こそぎにする(up)　2.（捜査などで）…を手入れする；…を逮捕する　3.（主に米軍）（罰として）…を格下げする　4.（米）（予算など）を使い果たす；…を破産させる」とありました。

Oxford.dictuinaries.comでは” A woman’s chest as measured around her breasts, A sculpture of a person’s head, shoulders, and chest, Break, split, or burst, chiefly North American (Of the police) raid or search (premises where illegal activity is suspected)”と定義されています。

しかし今回の記事では上記の「壊す」意味では通りません。

文中でrocket to「（人が）…に一挙に出世する」（同英和辞典）が使われていること、bustは名詞で体の上位部分を表すことから「39位（トップ40位）入りを果たした」と訳せるかと思いました。

Babymetalは「アイドルとメタルの融合」をコンセプトとしている、2010年に結成された女性3人組ユニットで、海外でも人気があります。様々な批評があるようですが、今後の活躍に期待したいです。(flyingbird)
