かんぽ生命と第一生命が、海外向けの生命保険と資産管理運営の部門で提携することを決定しました。

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan Post Insurance Co. and Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. said Tuesday they have agreed to tie up in the areas of overseas life insurance and asset management operations.

The announcement comes at a time when Japanese insurers are exploring ways to strengthen their competitiveness to cope with an expected blow from a fall in Japan's population to the domestic life insurance market.

Under the deal, the unit of the Japan Post group will consider extending support to Vietnam Post Corp., a Vietnamese state-owned postal service provider, to which a subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life consigns sales of life insurance products.

Japan Post Insurance will also consider taking a stake in the subsidiary of Dai-ichi Life in Vietnam.

今回取り上げる表現はconsign です。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（研究社）第５版で調べてみますと、「（ある場所、状態に）（…）を片づける、陥れる、預ける、引き渡す」という意味があることが分かりました。

ここでの意味を考えてみたのですが、預けるという意味が近いかと思われます。しかし、「預ける」では直訳過ぎるかと思われますので、「委託する」という意味合いではないかと推測します。そうすると、第一生命が生命保険分野の営業を委託している子会社という意味になるのではないでしょうか。（aqua）
