Good morning on this dripping Wednesday. This afternoon, mourners will gather to honor the life of Randolph Holder, a police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Holder, 33, was shot while responding to reports of gunfire in East Harlem last week. He was the fourth police officer killed on duty since last December. On Tuesday, his family held a public viewing. Nate Schweber, who covered that wake for The Times, said that hundreds of mourners, many of them police officers, were at the cathedral at dawn on Tuesday. Many of them wept as they made the sign of the cross over Officer Holder’s coffin and saluted, Mr. Schweber said.
