イギリス総選挙が本日開催されます。大学に来る前にテレビニュースでも放送しておりましたが，保守党，労働党の間で近年にない大接戦になるようです。2大政党が接戦をすると，必然的に他の野党の影響力も大きくなると思います。どのような結果になるのでしょうか。
記事の中で気になった表現は見出に出てくる"cast vote"です。Weblioで調べると「投票」という意味がありました。"cast"は"Throw (something) forcefully in a specified direction"という定義にもあるように，「投げる」という意味があります。「投票」の「投」は，投げるを意味しているのでしょうか。調べてみると投票という言葉が使われるように成ったのは，明治以降以降のようです。一説によると"cast a vote"を参考にしたのではないかと言われております。（Ume）
Election 2015: Millions due to cast their vote
Millions of people will be casting their votes in the UK general election later.
Polls open at 07:00 BST at around 50,000 polling stations across the country.
A total of 650 Westminster MPs will be elected, with about 50 million people registered to vote.
As well as the general election, there are more than 9,000 council seats being contested across 279 English local authorities.
Mayors will also be elected in Bedford, Copeland, Leicester, Mansfield, Middlesbrough and Torbay.
