Homecoming kings: Ichiro ties Oh

MIAMI — Ichiro Suzuki of the Miami Marlins scored in typical fashion in Friday’s 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The run comes as a major achievement. The Marlins trailed by a run in the fifth inning and with two down, Suzuki beat out a grounder to shortstop to reach base. He moved to second on a hit before pitcher Mat Latos came through with a single to center that allowed Suzuki to race home from second and even the score.

Suzuki scored 658 runs as a member of the Orix BlueWave during his time in Japan. He has played with three big league organizations and amassed 1,309 runs for a U.S.-Japan total of 1,967.

That figure matches Sadaharu Oh, the homer king who played for 22 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants. Oh, currently the chairman of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, owns the Nippon Pro Baseball record for runs scored.
