Super Typhoon Vonfong to hit Japan

According to reports, typhoon Vongfong, the strongest typhoon in 2014, is expected to hit Japan this weekend. It is forecast to approach the Japanese island prefecture of Okinawa by Saturday.

Vongfong is Category 5 storm packed with maximum sustained winds of at least 180 miles per hour and gustiness higher than 200 miles per hour.

It is said to be equivalent or slightly stronger than Super Typhoon Haiyan that brought devastation in the Philippines last year.

Japan Meteorological Agency says Vongfong may weaken as it approaches Japan - from Category 5 to Category 2 with maximum winds in the 85-110 mph.
