Bag with body found near home of missing girl
A bag containing what appeared to be the body of a girl was found Tuesday in bushes in Nagata Ward, Kobe, near the home of Mirei Ikuta, a 6-year-old girl who went missing Sept. 11.
The Hyogo Prefectural Police said Tuesday night they were trying to confirm the body’s identity.
According to police and school officials, the first-grade student left her school at around 2:45 p.m. Sept. 11. About 15 minutes later, her mother confirmed the girl had left her “ransel” satchel at her grandmother’s home, which is near the Ikuta’s home.
Surveillance camera footage showed the girl walking alone past a nearby convenience store, with an open parasol, at around 3:15 p.m. She was supposed to play with a friend who lives in the same building as the convenience store, but she did not show up.
She was last seen walking near a park 600 meters southeast of her home in Nagata Ward at around 5:30 p.m. The parasol was later found in bushes near the condo.
