Car runs onto sidewalk in Tokyo, leaving woman dead and 7 others injured

A driver suspected to have been under the influence of a quasi-legal drug veered onto a crowded sidewalk in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district on June 24, hitting and killing one woman and leaving seven others injured, police said.

Officers arrested the 37-year-old driver, Keiji Nagura, on suspicion of negligent driving after he slammed into the pedestrians with his SUV near the west entrance of JR Ikebukuro Station at around 7:55 p.m. on June 24. The woman who died is believed to be in her 20s.

According to police, Nagura has admitted the allegations against him. He was quoted as telling investigators he drove into the pedestrians shortly after smoking a so-called "loophole" hallucinatory herb. Police searched Nagura's car, as he said he had kept the substance there.

Driver kills woman after taking 'law-evading drug'

A man is under arrest after he allegedly drove a car under the influence of hallucinogenic herbs. One woman died and 6 people were injured.

 Police say 37-year-old Keiji Nagura drove his vehicle onto a sidewalk and hit pedestrians near Ikebukuro Station on Tuesday evening. The area is one of the busiest commercial districts in Tokyo.
