New York Today: Mother’s Day Delays

Good morning to you on this damp Friday.

There are several days a year when heavy traffic is predictable: around Thanksgiving, Christmas, the Super Bowl.

But there’s a sleeper — a day when cars clog roads that should be empty.

That would be Mother’s Day.

On Sunday, there may be rush hour-like traffic on bridges and tunnels in the afternoon and evening, said Samuel I. Schwartz, the former traffic commissioner now known as Gridlock Sam.

“Fathers take mothers out on Mother’s Day,” Mr. Schwartz said.

The same thing does not happen on Father’s Day, he added.

このsleeperは以前も採り上げていますが、ここはちょっと違う意味です。さて何でしょうか。梅くん、頑張ってください。(UG)
