ソチ冬季五輪フィギュアスケートの男子フリーで、羽生結弦選手は冒頭の４回転ジャンプで失敗しながらも後半立て直し、フリーでも１位の得点をあげ、合計280.09点で金メダルを獲得しました。大騒ぎになりますね。よかった。
Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan Wins Men’s Figure Skating Gold
When Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan crashed to the ice on a quadruple jump, it seemed that the gold medal had slipped from his grasp. He fell again on another jump, and his hopes dimmed further.
But Hanyu fought back to finish his program strong, a wise move because Patrick Chan of Canada had an even worse long program, stumbling on several jumps and shedding technical points all over the ice. So Hanyu, falls and all, ended up on top. The 19-year-old from Japan won the first men’s singles skating gold in his country’s history.

fight backは「抵抗する」という意味ですが、ここではその後ろのfinish~ strongを加えて、「前半の4回転失敗にもめげないで立て直す」という意味になります。なかなか出てこない表現です。
