streamは、名詞では「小川」、動詞では「…を流す」「（髪・旗・ふきながしなどを）翻らせる, なびかせる」などの意味で知られています。しかしながら考えてみると、いつの間にか「ネットを使って動画などを流す、映像を中継する」という意味でもごく普通に使われるようになってきたのですね。改めてそのパワーに畏れ入っています。ちなみにミカエラさんはカナダのBC州カムループ市に実家があるのですね。２０年以上も前に訪れたことがあります。確か、湖で有名でしたよね。（UG）
Canadian promotes city as 'Kawaii' mayor
Micaela Braithwaite, a Canadian blogger living in Fukuoka, has become the second mayor of Kawaii Ward, a virtual ward of the city.
"I'm into natto-maki [natto roll] sold at convenience stores," she says in a video on her blog. She tries to wrap rice in seaweed after peeling off the plastic wrap, but drops the rice on the floor with an "oh."
Braithwaite streams videos like this about her daily life in Japan. Thanks to her lively facial expressions and rich emotions, her videos have been viewed about 2.5 million times.
The Fukuoka municipal government took note of her ability to transmit information in an attractive way and appointed her mayor of the virtual ward. She has introduced local specialties and fashion in the ward, which was created on the city's website.
