slamming their balloon sticks
野球ネタばかりで恐縮ですが、最近よく見かける応援用の細長い風船はballoon sticks（２つでひとつ、ペアなので-s）というのですね。手拍子よりも効率的で、slamという動詞と共起するのもよく分かります。

しかしですね。もっと気になるのが球場のファンが７回（？）に一斉に飛ばすあの風船の英語名称です。結局、分からないままです。ちなみに日本語では「ジェット風船」というらしいのですが、そもそも英語圏にも同じ様なものはあるのでしょうか。
「困ったときのWikipedia」には「ジェット風船とは - 飛ばす目的で使用する細長い風船」とあり、その起源には阪神説か広島説があるが、謎のままとのこと。「ジェット風船」という名称は大阪にあるタイガーゴムという風船を制作する会社の命名だそうです。誰か調べてみませんか。（UG）
