Sea temperatures around the Japanese archipelago hit record high
Water surface temperatures in five sea areas around the Japanese archipelago hit record highs in mid-August, the Meteorological Agency said, raising fears about the phenomenon's impact on fishing.
... The amount of netted mackerel, sardine and squid off Shizuoka Prefecture has substantially decreased as the temperature of the surface of the sea in that area has remained around 30 degrees Celsius since the beginning of this month, according to a local fisheries cooperative. A huge number of jellyfish have been recently observed in some areas in Suruga Bay.
