イギリス出身の歌手であるOne DirectionのメンバーZayn Malikが婚約したことを発表しました。

今回取り上げるのはmentorという表現です。これは、「（経験を積んだ）指導者、助言者；師」「…に指導する、…に助言する」という意味を表します。（『ウィズダム英和辞典　第３版』三省堂）また、この意味はギリシャ神話の“Mentor”（Odysseusが自分の子Telemachusの教育を託した有能な助言者）からきているのではないかと思います。
念のため英英で見てみると、LDOCEには“an experienced person who advises and helps a less experienced person”と記載されていました。（Jakie）
