Australiaで、ある母親が娘をひどい扱いをしました。衝撃的なニュースです。

A Thai woman has been sentenced to nine years in jail by a Queensland court after becoming the first person in Australia convicted of trafficking a child for prostitution.
The 41-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to trafficking in the Supreme Court in Brisbane today.
She also pleaded guilty to procuring the prostitution of her daughter and 14 counts of indecent treatment of a child.
The offences occurred in Australia and began in 2004 when the girl was nine.

今回取り上げたい表現は、traffickingです。名詞のtrafficは、「交通、運送」という意味しか知りませんでしたが、他に「（不正な）取引、貿易」、「密売買」という意味があるそうです。（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第四版』大修館）そこからわかるように、traffickingは「（麻薬などの）違法な売買」を指します。今回の記事には、trafficking a childとありますが、これは「児童売買」のことですね。(ibid)
drug trafficking「麻薬売買」、human trafficking「人身売買」などが例に上がりますが、「児童人身売買組織」はchild trafficking ringと表されており（英辞朗 on the WEB）、このringという表現も合わせておさえたいと思います。
