今回のThank you very muchはゼミ生としては知っておかなければならない使い方です。

先日紹介した『1日3分 脱「日本人英語」レッスン』で，このThank you very much.は採り上げられています。以下はその引用です。

「言い方（イントネーション，身振り，顔つきを含む）次第では，申し出，依頼などに対する「拒絶・反発」，さらには相手への「からかい・皮肉」などの意味を生むことがあるのです。Kateさんの最後のThank you very much.は「麺類は本当にダメなの！その話はやめて！」という叫びだったのです。」（p.127）

さらに辞書にも「［文尾において］せっかくですが（1）相手または他者の遠回しの応援申し出などを断るときに用いる…（3）Thank you very muchともいう」と説明があります（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）。以上から，今回は「そう，ビヨンセは録音なんか使わなくても歌うことができるのです。心配してくれてありがとう（＝だからもう心配（噂）するのはやめよう）」と解釈できます。（Koyamamoto）
