N.Korea protests UN condemnation
North Korea has protested a UN Security Council resolution condemning its rocket launch last month, also suggesting that it will step up its military power, including its nuclear weapons program.
The North's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that it firmly condemns the UN resolution, which attempts to remove its right to launch a satellite for peaceful purposes.
The statement says that the US policy of hostility toward North Korea has been made apparent and that the North has ultimately concluded that denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is impossible.
North Korea says the joint statement from the 6-party talks in 2005, which includes plans for the North to abandon all nuclear weapons and programs, has been rendered null.
The North also says it will take physical measures to boost and strengthen its defensive military power, including nuclear deterrence, to counter pressure from US sanctions, suggesting it may conduct a third nuclear test. North Korea conducted 2 previous nuclear tests, in 2006 and 2009.
