Nippon Ishin Decides to Merge with Sunrise Party
Osaka, Nov. 17 (Jiji Press)--Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto's Nippon Ishin No Kai, or the Japan Restoration Party, decided at a plenary meeting Saturday to merge with the Sunrise Party. The two parties will merge before the Dec. 16 election for the House of Representatives in an effort to create a new political force that can compete with the two biggest parties in the country--the Democratic Party of Japan and the Liberal Democratic Party. The Japan Restoration Party will survive the integration. The Sunrise Party, which was established only on Tuesday, will be disbanded. The new Japan Restoration Party will be led by former Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, co-head of the Sunrise Party. Hashimoto will hold the title of acting leader. Takeo Hiranuma, the other co-head of the Sunrise Party, will become head of lawmakers of the merged party.
