Softbank Wants Sprint, but Maybe T-Mobile Is the Prize
The news that Japan’s Softbank is looking to buy a controlling stake in Sprint has sent shares in the operator up almost 15%, but there’s a forest out there beyond these trees: the deal push the U.S. mobile market into its final round of super-consolidation.
For now, the real price action is over at Clearwire up an amazing 70% today. That, as we covered earlier, is based on the logic that Sprint — which already owns about 49% of Clearwire – will look to take control of the mobile broadband company as part and parcel of the Softbank deal.
