Chinese Fishery Patrol Ship Spotted Near Senkaku
Naha, Okinawa Pref., Sept. 18 (Jiji Press)--The Japan Coast Guard spotted a Chinese government fishery patrol ship in waters near the East China Sea islands of Senkaku early Tuesday morning, officials said.
The Yuzheng-35001 ship of the Chinese Agriculture Ministry's Fisheries Bureau was seen sailing east at around 6:50 a.m. (9:50 p.m. Monday GMT) at a location some 43 kilometers north-northwest of Uotsurijima, one of the five Senkaku islands, said the officials at the 11th Coast Guard Headquarters of Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan.
The Chinese ship was within the contiguous zone just outside Japanese waters around the islands, claimed by China and called Diaoyu in Chinese.
No other Chinese patrol ship or private fishing boats have been found nearby so far, the officials added.
The Japan Coast Guard warned the Yuzheng-35001 not to enter Japanese waters. The ship replied that Diaoyu is integral part of China's territory and that it is conducting legal operation.
