５月22日に開業した東京スカイツリーを運営する東武タワースカイツリーはスカイツリーの「天望デッキ」への来場者数が100万人に達したと発表しました。スカイツリー人気が証明された形です。

Tokyo Skytree Hails Millionth Visitor to Observation Decks

Tokyo, Aug. 1 (Jiji Press)--The number of visitors to Tokyo Skytree's observation decks reached one million on Wednesday, after the world's tallest self-sustaining tower was opened in the eastern Tokyo ward of Sumida on May 22.
The one-millionth mark was achieved by the family group of Rena Tanaka, 38, 12-year-old son Ryuto and seven-year-old daughter Sana from Tomi, Nagano Prefecture, central Japan.
Tobu Tower Skytree Co. President Michiaki Suzuki and "Sorakara-chan," the tower's character, gave them commemorative gifts including miniature Skytree models and hotel coupons with observatory admission tickets.
"I'm very happy. I'll tell my schoolmates about this," Sana said.
The Skytree operator estimates that a total of some 5.4 million people will visit the 634-meter tower's observation decks in the first year.

hailは多義語です。名詞の「ひょう、あられ」に始まって、動詞では「歓呼して迎える、大声で呼ぶ、すぐれたものとして認める」などの意味があり、さらに、hail fromという形では「~出身である、~産である、〜でとれた」という面白い意味があります。
