Tommy John surgery

GPくんが書いてくると思っていましたが、忙しいようなので代わりに...。松井選手が右ひじの手術からの復帰を目指すレッドソックスの松坂選手と３Ａの試合で２年ぶりに対戦しました。松坂は松井は押さえたものの７回途中、７安打５失点で降板となり、首脳陣にはアピールはできませんでした。
Tommy John surgeryとは靱帯（ligamenta cord）を再建する手術の総称です。UCL（ulnar collateral ligament, 内側側副靭帯) reconstructionが正式名称ですが、大リーグの名選手 Tommy Johnの名前をとって、こう呼ばれます。（UG）

Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka’s latest rehab start for minor league side Triple-A Pawtucket was his longest.

Matsuzaka allowed five runs—four earned—in 6 2/3 innings Thursday against the Durham Bulls. He threw 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes while allowing seven hits.

The Japanese star struck out three, hit one batter and gave up two home runs—including one to the first hitter he faced.

Matsuzaka has been on the disabled list for more than a year and is working his way back from Tommy John surgery last June. He made his fifth rehab start and third with Pawtucket, and hadn’t gone more than 5 1/3 innings in his previous four.

He’s expected to start again Tuesday at Norfolk.
