説教する

私は高校時代、よく先生に「説教」されたものです。「説教」は和英辞典(『プログレッシブ和英中辞典』 第３版)にはpreachingが載っていました。実際、OALDには"(verb) to give sb advice on moral standards, behavior,　etc, especially in a way that they find annoying or boring"とあり、道徳に基づいて行うものであることが分かります。
Full Houseを見ていたら、違う表現があったので載せておきます。学校をサボってサイン会に行ったD.J.に父親(Danny)がこれから説教をするシーンです。
Stephanie: Lecture time. See you.
Danny: Steph, I think you should stay.
Stephanie: Why do I get a lecture? I didn't do anything.
Danny: But you will, so take accurate notes. D.J., come over here. Why did you do what you did today?
D.J.: Because I wanted that autograph more than anything.
Danny: Do you know what the worst part is about what you did?
D.J.: That I cut school?....
ここでは、「説教」をlectureという表現を使っています。「講義」というニュアンスだと思っていましたが、このように学校をサボったDJに使っています（サボるという表現をここではcutを使っているのも面白いです）。OALDには "a long angry talk that sb gives to one person or a group of people because they have done sth wrong"とあり、悪いことをしたときに行う表現だと述べられております。(Minnesota)
