Pet food advert is mutt-see TV

VIEWING figures will go through the woof tonight — with a telly commercial only DOGS can hear. The pet food ad being shown for the first time features noises at frequencies too high for human ears.

In tests mutts stopped whatever they were doing to stare at the screen and often ran right up to it barking. The ad, by dog food firm Bakers, is a canine spoof of classic 1969 movie The Italian Job. It has been run before but without the "dog only" background noises.

Mark Zaki, of Bakers, said: "We hope it's an engaging experience for dogs and their owners." The ad will be shown on ITV1 at 7.15pm.
