本日（12/05/10付）のfoxsports.com.auには，アメリカ・カリフォルニア州で現在行われているゴルフの大会，“シェブロンワールドチャレンジ（the Chevron Challenge）”を採りあげた記事が掲載されていました。同大会は男子ゴルフ・世界ランキング50位までの18名で争われます。大会3日目（全4日）を終え，世界ランキング1位返り咲きを狙うタイガー・ウッズ選手が首位をひた走っています。

今回の表現はput an exclamation mark on~です。exclamation（感嘆符）をput on~（〜をつける）と分けて考えると何となく意味も想像が付きますが，手持ちの辞書にはハッキリとした意味は載せられていませんでした。ただ，対象となる事・物を強調する意味を持つ事は間違いないようです。以下は辞書に載っていた例文。
・Tatsuya’s goal put an exclamation mark on a 1-0 Japanese win against Italy.
（達也のゴールで日本はイタリアに1‐0の劇的な勝利をあげた）
記事の場合，「ウッズ選手は18番ホールのアプローチからこの日6つ目となるバーディーを決め，圧巻のプレーで3日目を終えた」と解釈出来ると思います。文脈によってan exclamation markの解釈は変化しそうですが，簡単な表現ではありますが，何かを強調する時に使えそうな表現かと思い取り上げさせて頂きました。（ゼミ生 gacha）
