Gov't ends eco-friendly vehicle subsidy system early after funds run dry
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced that it brought forward the deadline for government subsidies for eco-friendly car purchases to Sept. 7, more than 20 days earlier than initially scheduled.
The government has been forced to discontinue its eco-friendly vehicle subsidy system before the original deadline at the end of September, as funds for the program are apparently about to run out due to a surge in demand.
In a bid to stop the cancellation of vehicle orders from those now ineligible for government grants, car dealers are rushing to offer buyers discounts equivalent to the subsidies. Meanwhile, automakers are striving to minimize a possible fall in sales by introducing new vehicles and providing dealers with sales incentives.
