Children throng to Beyblade championships

SEOUL (Kyodo) About 4,000 children and their parents thronged to an international tournament Sunday in Seoul for Tomy Co.'s Beyblade spinning top toy, with children from Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong competing for honors.
Japanese contestants Ryuki Otsuka, 8, and Keito Ida, 11, won the championships for their divisions, Otsuka for first- and second-graders and Ida for third- to sixth-graders.
About 24 million units of the Beyblades Metal Fight series have been sold in Japan since its launch in 2008.
The toy has also proved to be a huge hit in South Korea and Hong Kong.
The Japanese participants in the tournament were chosen from among 3,000 children across the country.
