MINAMIAIZU, Fukushima -- A spectacular parade of 30 women dressed as kimono-clad brides has attracted crowds of tourists during the "Aizu Tajima Gion Festival" here.
During the "Nanahokai" parade on July 23, some 100 participants -- including the 30 women dressed in colorful wedding kimono -- marched about 300 meters along a street in Minamiaizu for half an hour under the scorching son, and dedicated seven bowls of sake and food to a shrine, praying for good luck and good harvests.
The festival, with more than 800 years of tradition, is designated by the Japanese government as a significant intangible folk cultural asset.
