enshrine /enʃrάɪn/ に注目しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典第5版』(大修館) によると「〜を秘める、安置する、祀る、大切にする」といった意味があります。次にケンブリッジ英英辞典』を見てみると ”to contain or keep something as if in aholy place“ あるいは ”o contain or keep in a place that is highly admired and respected” と説明されていて、何かを非常に崇拝したり何処かに秘め大切に保管する様を表していると窺えます。
enshrine はラテン語で「大切な書簡を入れておく箱」の意味を持つ “scrinium” に強意の接頭辞 “en” が結び付いたことに依るとわかりました。また “scrinium” から派生した語である “shrine” が「神社」という意味を伴うことはお馴染みですが、聖人や遺物または像などが祀っている「神社」という意味の語に “en” を付属させることで動詞形として「祀る、大切にする」と訳されるとわかります。
民間人の死亡者数はさらに増加する可能性がある一方で、ソマリアあるいはリビアでのアメリカ軍の作戦による民間人の死亡者数に関して、アメリカ国防総省が正確な統計を有していないことが問題視されているようです。(Happidra)
