The luminous show was created by combustion gas from the Epsilon-3 solid-fuel rocket.
After its 6:06 a.m. launch, the small rocket reached an altitude of more than 100 kilometers. Lit up by twilight before sunrise, a white plume of combustion gas drifted in the sky.
About 30 minutes after liftoff, when dawn was breaking, the plume was tinged with red and blue.
