Join wild bird tourism in Nemuro

NEMURO, Hokkaido — “Can you see the fence over there? The birds near the fence are snow buntings.”

In early December 2016, a group of about 10 people in snowsuits uttered this English sentence earnestly to each other on the Shunkunitai sandbank located midway between Nemuro Bay and Furenko lake as they looked at little birds in the distance.

The group consisted of students at the Nemuro Yacho Kanko Business School (Nemuro wild bird tourism business school). The Nemuro City Tourist Association has operated the school since 2014 to take care of foreign tourists who visit the city of Nemuro in eastern Hokkaido to watch wild birds.
