the book you want to be seen reading

昨日のNY Todayから。はずむような文体が春のうららかな日をイメージさせてくれます。突っ込みどころはたくさんありますが,わたしには"pick out the book you want to be seen reading while you recline on the Great Lawn"の箇所でクスッと笑ってしまいました。これって,「あるある」ですね。あなたはどんな情景を思い浮かべますか。Starlighさん,どうぞ。(KAwada)

New York Today: Basking in the Spring Sun

Good morning on this temperate Friday.

It’s that time of year — time to ditch the Canada Goose parka and flaunt your natural fibers, and pick out the book you want to be seen reading while you recline on the Great Lawn.

The city’s green expanses await you. Here are some ways to find your place in the sun, for whenever it pokes through the clouds this weekend and beyond.

Unfurl a towel at one of Hudson River Park’s designated sunbathing spots.
Pack a picnic for Dyckman Fields, in Inwood, and watch sun-creased fishermen cast a line.

Get scrubbed, kneaded and exfoliated at the Russian & Turkish Baths in the East Village, then slip upstairs to the sun deck.

But perhaps you’re one of those who prefer to move about, rather than join this horizontally oriented lot.

In that case, consider venturing to Socrates Sculpture Park along the East River, where this weekend there is yoga, a sculpture workshop for kids and the debut of a 30-foot-tall curving pyramid.

Or, on one of the next six Fridays or Saturdays, wind your way through an art installation at Central Park’s north end.

You might take your cue from the people sunbathing in Bryant Park in our Week in Pictures slideshow.

It may be enough to help you forget the humidity clinging to your brow and ignore the nearby subway’s rumble.
