米・ニューヨーク市長選で当選したBill de Blasio氏の面白いプロフィールがNYTにありました。以下は記事の最後の部分、自身の下半身の写真を女性に送りつけたというスキャンダルにもかかわらず市長選に立候補した元下院議員のアンソニー・ウィーナー氏に関する部分です。
おなじみの動詞 roastには「(あざけったりして) こてんぱんにこきおろす、酷評する」という意味がありますが、ここはその名詞で「街の笑いもの、笑いのネタ」となります。同じ様なthe talk of the townよりもさらにきつ~い言い方だということが分かります。（UG）
