Braving drizzling rain, candidates vying in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election opened their campaigns following the official announcement Friday.
The election is regarded as a major indicator of how the political winds will blow in next month’s House of Councillors election.
A total of 253 candidates filed their candidacies for the 127 seats, the largest among prefectural-level assemblies.
