フィラデルフィア管弦楽団を去る名指揮者シャルル＝デュトワについてです。彼は日本のNHK交響楽団の音楽監督にも一時期就任し、ピアニストのアルゲリッチの元夫としても我が国では有名です。
フィラデルフィア管弦楽団は長い歴史があり、作曲家のラフマニノフが自作の協奏曲もこのオケをバックにして録音しています。しかし、リーマンショックの影響で連邦倒産法第11章（日本でいう民事再生法）の申請を明らかにして、破産寸前の状況です。

Charles Dutoit Conducts Philadelphia Orchestra, Carnegie Hall

The Philadelphia Orchestra is going all out to acknowledge the contribution of Charles Dutoit as he concludes his fourth and final season as chief conductor. The orchestra owes him, big time. The musicians played splendidly for Mr. Dutoit on Friday night at Carnegie Hall, his last appearance in New York as their artistic leader.
Mr. Dutoit stepped into a delicate situation four years ago in Philadelphia. For reasons that are hard to pin down, Christoph Eschenbach’s tenure as music director, which began in 2003, did not work out. He and the orchestra parted ways after just five seasons. While the search began for another music director, Mr. Dutoit accepted the newly created position of chief conductor, also serving as artistic adviser.
