Qualifier downs Air K for Japan title

Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev stunned home favorite Kei Nishikori in Tokyo on Sunday, winning the final of the Japan Open 6-2, 6-4 in just over one hour.

Medvedev came out of the blocks fast and Nishikori, aiming for his third title at this event, could not cope with the big-hitting Russian, who broke his serve at the second time of asking.

LDOCEには “someone who is very important and successful and who has a lot of influence” と定義されており、様々な影響力を持った重要な人のことをさすようです。他にも似た言葉にheavy hitterがあり、そちらは “a person or company that has a lot of power, especially in business or politics” や “a baseball player who hits the ball very hard” と説明されています。 (aqua)
