translucent 復習

　今回調べたのはtranslucent /trænslúːsnt/ です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「<ガラス・プラスチックなどが>半透明の」や「<色が>薄い、淡い、<肌が>透き通るような」とありました。またLDOCEにはnot transparent, but clear enough to allow light to pass throughと定義されています。

　luc-、lum-、lust-はラテン語で明るいという意味のlucidusが語源となっているそうです。LDOCEの光を通す程度の透明さという定義からも連想できるかと思います。(rain)
