　今回調べたのはbe in a fixです。文脈から困るといった意味であることが予測できました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）にはYou’ll be in a fix.「困ったことになるよ、にっちもさっちもいかなくなるよ」という例文が書いてあります。またLDOCEにはto have a problem that is difficult to solveと定義されていました。

　fixがこのような意味にあるのはなんだか不思議な感じがしましたが、fixには「苦しい[困った]立場、板ばさみ」といった意味があるということが分かりました。またfixには（麻薬の）注などといった意味もあるのでそこから転じてできたのではないかと思います。
