今回取り上げるのはlax / lˈæks / です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「ゆるい,ゆるんだ,締まりのない」や「<人が>〔…の点で〕怠慢な,ずぼらな」などとありました。またLDOCEにはnot strict or careful enough about standards of behaviour, work, safety etcと定義されていました。
relaxはこのlaxからできている単語だということが分かりました。ちなみにlaxの語源はラテン語のlaxareだそうです。（rain）
