vulnerability 復習

今回取り上げるのはvulnerability /v`ʌln(ə)rəbíləṭi/ です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）によるとvulnerable / vˈʌln(ə)rəbl / の名詞形であると記載されていました。vulnerableは「〈人・体などが〉〔…に〕傷つき［冒され］やすい」や「〈人・考えなどが〉〔批判・批難などを〕受けやすい;〔誘惑などに〕負けやすい」という意味だそうです。
vulnerableはLDOCEにはsomeone who is vulnerable can be easily harmed or hurtやa place, thing, or idea that is vulnerable is easy to attack or criticizeと定義されていました。
「脆い」といった感じでしょうか。しかしfragileとの違いが分からなかったので調べてみました。vulnerableは外的要因によって「脆い」という感じで、fragileは歳や性質のせいなど仕方のない「脆さ」という感じのようです。(rain)
