今回はposthumously / pɑ́stʃʊməsli / を紹介します。post-なので過去のことを意味していると推測しました。

まずOxford English Dictionaryでは “After the death of the originator.” と定義されていました。つまり「死後」と言った意味でしょうか。
確認したところ『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）にはposthumousで「死後の」とありました。また「＜作品が＞著者の死後出版された」という意味もあります。

続いて語源を調べてみたところ、17世紀の始めラテン語のpostumus「最後」という意味から由来しています。またhumusは「土地」（「埋葬」を意味する）であり、この２つが組み合わさって「死後の」という意味になったのではないでしょうか。
