Pyrotechnicianを取りあげます。LDOCEによると、第一義に“formal or technical a public show of FIREWORKS”、第二義として“technical the skill or business of making FIREWORKS”とありました。また、pyro-を『ジーニアス英和大辞典』で調べると、「火、熱,高温、火や熱によって引き起こされる」などといった意味があることが分かりました。
続いてODEで語源を調べてみると、“early 19th cent. : from PYRO- ‘fire’ + Greek tekhne ‘art’ + -ic.”と定義されています。
