　今回取り上げる語は、propitious /prəpíʃəs/ です。記事にある “to establish an ideal society in a propitious spot…” を文脈から訳をつけると「理想的な社会を理想的な場所に作ること」となりそうです。実際に propitious がどういった意味で使われているか確認していきます。
　まず意味を Cambridge Dictionary でみると、“likely to result in success, or showing signs of success” とあり、LDOCE には “good and likely to bring good results” と定義されていました。
　次に語源を OED でみると、“Late Middle English: from Old French propicieus or Latin propitius ‘favourable, gracious’.” とあります。
