今回はdown to earthを紹介していきます。文脈及び前後関係に着目して、「現実を見る」という意味が込められていると解釈しましたが、実際のところはどうでしょうか。以下で確認していきます。
『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』（第五版、学研プラス）では、down to earthで「率直に、現実的に」とありました。一見、この副詞の響きは「現実なものとなる」かのようなニュアンスを含んでいるような気もしますが、同辞書でbring A down to earthを引くと「A（浮かれている人）を現実に引き戻す」とありました。さらに、形容詞のdown-to-earthは「（宙に浮いてフワフワしているのではなく）足がしっかりと地に着いた、現実的な、実際的な、地道な、堅実な、分別のある」という意味になります。（英辞郎on the WEB）
