Some thoughts after the Camp

Dear Dr. Tanabe,

Thank you very much for your instruction in the Spring Camp. I was deeply motivated to learn more about the language.

I got a clear picture of the importance of “pushed output”. As we performed a “skit”, I realized that the whole process of preparing for and performing it is indeed connected to the four skills.

I thought that I had been keeping a good balance of input and output in English with exchange students staying with us at International House. However, now I realize that I have not been successful in connecting the dots! I have put "fluency"—perhaps too much—over "accuracy" with my dealing with them.

This Camp stirred up something in me —that something is unexplainable in words—but one thing is clear, I’ll never give up on my learning this impossible language—as long as my wish to be an interpreter is there. I'll continue to work more on improving my English with my fellow members. I'll definitely learn more in my remaining days before going to Calgary, Canada.

Best regards,

broccoli
