BEIJING--Footage of a reporter rolling her eyes as another journalist prattles on and makes flattering remarks before she asks a government official a question during a legislative session has sparked an uproar in China.

The clip led to speculation that the U.S. broadcaster the woman journalist in a red suit claimed to be representing was a fake entity created by the Chinese Communist Party.
