As LDP election nears, Abe ignores calls for Aso’s resignation

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Finance Minister Taro Aso quickly fortified their defenses against calls to resign by blaming a small circle of bureaucrats for a scandal that has engulfed the political world.

The scale of the scandal, which now involves falsified documents, has the opposition parties smelling blood. And even lawmakers of the ruling coalition are saying Aso has got to go.

また、Merriam-Websterではto sense an opponent's weakness or vulnerabilityと定義されています。 (Blue Sky)
